i need to use the 'net use' command to connect remotely to a hard drive on a completely different network, basically, i need to map a drive across 2 different networks on two separate dsl lines...
i have succesfully done this on two machines on the same network (internal IP's, ie 'net use \\172.26.0.2\c') but i now need to do the same across the internet... my question is... how do i internally redicrect the request to the correct machine on the dsl router?
when i type in on the local machine 'net use \\remote_ip' then what do i type to get to the correct remote machine within the network??
on both networks there are more than one machine
Any ideas??
Many thanks in advance...

You either need to find the fully qualified domain name or the IP address of the remote machine. And then use that when connecting, supplying the correct username and password information.
You might try reading this: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/using/productdoc/en/default.asp?url=/windowsxp/home/using/productdoc/en/net_use.asp
It's geared more for XP, but might help you out when searhcing for the correct syntax...

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.. I know both the IP and name of the computer I need to connect to, but I'll try and explain again...
For example, the machine I need to connect to inside the netowrk is called 'accounts' and it's internal IP is 172.26.0.2, I can connect fine to this machine INSIDE the network by using the command 'net use x: \\172.26.0.2\c' up until here, all is fine and OK
The problem is, that I need to coneect to that same machine from OUTSIDE the network, so obviously the 172.26.0.2 is not valid anymore, as I have to specify my public IP in the net use command, BUT my question is how do I tell the net use command which machine to go to after it gets past the public IP...
What I mean is, the command would look like this 'net use \\my_public_ip\' but how to tell it which machine to go to inside the network??
Is there something I should tell the DSL router, is there a specific port this command uses, can I specify a port number?
I hope I have explained, and someone can help!
Thanks
