I have a 32 MgB file that I need to get to someone in Canada
I can't email it because it's too big
I can't use a free hosting site because the limit is 20 MgB
Neither of us know of an FTP server/login that we can use

Is there no way to ftp from person to person?

How can I get this file transferred without burning a CD and sticking it in the mail?

is this 32 MB file already zipped? If not use Winzip to reduce the size of the file.

You can use the demo version of ServU. It is an FTP server for the masses! ;)

You setup ServU and give your user(s) a username and pass. Give them your IP address and they can login.

I reccomend they download SmartFTP as their client to login to your FTP.

They simply type in your IP address, their username and password, and they are in.

This may not be for the faint of heart, and can be dificult to configure.

Another option is to download mIRC, an IRC(Internet Relay Chat) program. Each of you login to IRC and contact each other via your alias. You can then inittiate a DCC file transfer. No limit on file size.

Another option... oh hang in there, cuz there are a LOT of options... Download Yahoo messenger, MSN messenger, ICQ, Eyeball Chat, etc... Contact each other in the messenging program and initiate a file transfer... again no limit on file size.

Good luck... hope that helped. :)

An idea.
How about giving your file a unique name and putting it in your share directory of Kazaa or something like it? Then your friend does a search for the name and downloads it.
Would that work?
Be a fun experiment.

There is a really easy way to do this...create a folder and put the file in this folder. Share the folder and add an account for you friend to use on your computer. Then give that user rights to read/write to that folder. Then just get online and get your ip and send an email to your friend with a link that looks like this //192.168.80.0/share/program.exe Of course replacing the IP address, share name and program name with the ones you set up. Once he clicks on it he will get a login prompt when he will then enter the username and password that you setup and start downloading. That's about the easiest way to do this.

I am a student, and I found transferring any work over 1.4Mb To-and-from College a nightmare. I invested in USB pen stick (flash memory that plugs directly into the USB port and is supported by P&P). When you plug it, the computer automatically recognises it as a removable device!

They range in size from 32Mb through to 1Gb, so shop around first.

This has to be my most useful gadget; I’ve never looked back!
