Hey all,
I have a dell latitude laptop with w2k pro on it and it hangs after logging in. the mouse pointer shows but with a full w2k light blue kind of startup background. The mouse moves the whole time, so the system isn’t completely locked up tight, but no desktop or icons ever show. It just occasionally checks the hard drive, but never progresses.
My question is simply is there a boot disk that I can create that can check for viruses? I also have several other very good laptops and a desktop that stay very up to date with virusscan. I use McAfee Enterprise 7.0. does this version have its own boot disk creation utility to boot to for reasons of wanting to check for a virus?
Worst case scenario, but a feasible option is to use my laptop hard drive adapter to slave this dell (possibly infected and affected) hard drive off of a virus scan up to date machine and scan the drive that way, but a boot floppy would be a heckofalot easier to do right now.
Let me know your suggestions, recommendations, questions for more info, etc. please.
Thanks,
Chuck

Can't see that a boot floppy would help. Your Norton Enterprise, I assume, needs windows.
I'd go for the option of putting the HD in another box and scanning it there.

The machine is laptop. Not familiar with McAfee Enterprise 7.0. Is this on a removable disk? If so, boot to the disk and see if you can scan from there.

Is the partition NTFS? If it is I think you are out of luck. If it's FAT32 then the boot disk set which you can create with the free AVG scanner should do the trick.
