Need HELP with USB Registry key removal

Good evening...
I'm trying to install a digital camera on a Windows 2000 workstation. The camera is a USB type. When I hooked it up to the machine, all was well but I screwed up and selected the standard USB driver instead of installing the one on the CD. Now, no matter what I do, I cannot install the new driver. I can removed the USB hardware in the Control panel but each time I reconnect, it comes up and says "Unknown USB device" and installs the Unknown driver that's located in the C:\WINNT\INF\USB.INF file. If I try to redirect to the correct driver, it says the file doesn't contain info about my hardware. I know it's some kind of association problem and now the hardware sees that address and associates it with the USB Unknown entry. I've tried removing the USB key from the registry for this device but the registry appears to be open or locked and it will not allow me.
I can't remember what file to modify to remove the association now between the camera and the USB driver. I need it to go back to prompting for the location of the correct driver.
