My brother-in-law is trying to install Win 2000 Pro on a HP 6640C which is approx. 3 years old. I think it's a 533 Mhz. I am "helping" him over the phone. At the beginning of the installation it's giving him a "bios needs to be upgraded..." message. I didn't anticipate this problem before formatting his hd and he has no other pc at home. I have searched around for a bios update but can't find a thing.
Any ideas or is Win 2000 not feasible on this machine? Btw he added RAM and it now has 320 mb.
Thanks for any help.
Gary

1. Check System Documentation recieved with the computer, if it`s still around after so long :- Get BIOS info. = Manufacturer, Version no. , Date, etc.
Now go to the web-site of the Manufacturer and look under support. You`ll find an update for the BIOS there. If your brother in-law reinstalls his previous OS just to access their site, they can upload the update directly to the BIOS on line using a
method called Flash Updating. Or they will send you the necessasary files on a CD if you prefer. It will cost about $20+
Using SiSoft Sandra, available from www.Download.com - You`ll also get all the details you need about the BIOS.
This registry key stores information about the system BIOS:-Including the release date, version number and video BIOS date.
Goto RUN on the START menu: Start REGEDIT:Goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System
Hope this helps.
