Hello
I'm having trouble installing win2k pro in my computer, in the disk partition page, no harddrive showed up. I'm using WD3200.
In the recovery console, I type dir, or anything related to directory, it says path or file specified is invalid or something like that.
Please help!!!!
This also happened to my xp installation disk, but not the recovery disk from HP.

Your post is confusing. What is it you have in the way of drives/partitions? What is/was installed in the way of an operating system? Is this WD3200 a brand new drive?

There's only one partition, and it was Windows XP Media Center Edition, WD3200 is not a new drive.
This computer is from Best Buy and it's a mistake.

you boot to the Win2000 CD and install from there. Do you want to wipe the drive clean?

If it is a SATA hard drive at start of install you press F6 and offer the SATA controller drivers on a floppy disk.

Are you saying you have both an IDE drive with windows2000 installed and now you need to get a SATA drive to work on this same computer? Is the SATA drive connected to a SATA connector on the MBoard or to a PCI controller card?

It looks like it's connected to the motherboard but in Device Manager, there's 2 PCI Device with question mark icon inside the Other Devices category.

I am trying to find out how the SATA drive is connected to your computer but you don't seem to know what your Motherboard is. Do you have both a power connector AND a data cable connected to the drive and to the motherboard.

Try this: google "Windows 2000 Pro Service Pack 4". The Microsoft site should come up. Go to it. Choose the Express install of Service Pack 4. Install it as per instructions. Win2K will find SATA drivers with this SP installed.

Hello Earwig,
SP4 was included in my win2k pro install CD, and yes I did follow your instructions and reinstalled SP4, but then I rebooted, the computer still didn't detect the SATA HDD.

You need to install SATA drivers for your motherboard. You will not find them on the western digital site. Go to the MB manufacturers site for them. If you don't know the model of the MB use Everest Home Edition to find it.
