Need 256 Colors

I just got a comp for christmas. It has a super VGA monitor, but it only goes up to 16 colors??? I've seen this monitor use 256 colors, so I know it has it. My question is how do I get it to be 256 colors? Please E-Mail me this answer ASAP so I can actually use a comp. Thanks to whoever answers.

Make sure you have the driver for the Video Card installed. More than likely, your monitor can do much much more than 256 colors unless it's old, however it's the Video Card that controls the output to the monitor.
