dear anyone,
i have the problem below in win2000
event viewer reports :unable to read IO control information from NBT device
thanks in advance
jim

I had that error msg and a whole bunch when i had McAfee antivirus v.4.03 NT installed
since i don't use McAfee installed anymore, it doesn't do it , it might also be AtGuard witch i set up differently on this setup
one thing for sure McAfee Antivirus v.4.03 NT does some nasty conflicting in the system, so be better use some other antuvirus software for now, until they fix a proper version for w2k
Also, when you do a search for NBT, you hit Nbstat, witch is Netbios name resolution stuff, i would think could be network stuff or firewall, check those areas also

I thought it was what i said above, but noneless, it is related to the performance, in administrative tools, got that one again when fixing another problem, don't know that one yet
you can do a search for anything "perf*.ini", & or "perf*.*" and look from there
haven't found the clue yet for that one

got the same thing:
Source:perfctrs
Error: Unable to read control information from NBT device
then this one
Source:winmgmnt
Error:WMI ADAP was unable to process the perfdisk performance library due to a time violation in the open function. All I am trying to do is monitor a token ring segment with an olicom pci adapter. After every 3 to 4 hours the system reboots and when I look at the event viewer, I see the above errors. I have no problem doing the same thing with NT 4.0

I also have the same error showing up in
the event viewer under applications.
The error is generated at boot time.
Event Type: Error
Event Source: perfctrsUnable to read IO control information from NBT device.

Windows 2000 may record the following event message in the Application log after every reboot:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: perfctrs
Event Category: None
Event ID: 3101
Date: boot_date
Time: boot_time
User: N/A
Computer: SYSTEM
Description: Unable to read IO control information from NBT device.CAUSE
The Windows 2000 TCP/IP performance counters (Perfctrs.dll) are attempting to extract I/O control information from a network device, but no network device (network adapter, modem, and so on) is present in the system.RESOLUTION
To eliminate the event message you can safely disable the TCP/IP performance counter by following these steps:Run the Exctrlst.exe utility from the Microsoft Windows 2000 Resource Kit.
Locate and then click the following extensible performance counter entry in the list:
TCPIP Perfctrs.dll
Click to clear the Performance counters enabled check box for that counter only.
Quit the utility, and then reboot the system.
After you restart the computer, the event entry should not appear. This has no effect on system performance or usability, even if networking is enabled in the future.Help!!
I don't have a Resource Kit.

You can download the Exctrist.exe utility
at the Windows 2000 Ressource Kit download site. I know can't afford to buy the whole Kit. I have the same problem and I hope this will fix it.
Good Luck
Jean

fer all the hell i went thru to actually find this in all the crap at ms heres the link :) http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/library/resources/reskit/tools/existing/exctrlst-o.asp
