If the hard drive is user removable try reseating it.

If reseating the HDD doesn't do the trick, you're likely going to have to reinstall the system. I hope your uncle also gave you the recovery CD's.

Sadly he didn't :(
and it doesn't have a cd rom drive.
I tried to make a boot disk from bootdisk.com and it won't let me make the disk.

Also you said reset my harddrive, how exactly do I do that?

He said "reseat" your hard drive. That means remove it and put it back and make sure it's firmly seated.

You can order a recovery CD from Toshiba if your uncle can't get it to you. Not having a CD-ROM isn't a big deal. You can buy a USB CD-ROM cheap and use that.

You might want to hit Toshiba's website. It's been a while since I worked on their laptops but if it doesn't have a CD-ROM, it may very well have a recovery partition on the hard drive you can reinstall from. It would involve hitting F7 or something like that at bootup.
