My Network Places and NO interfaces

I can no longer see my Network Interface cards under My Network Places (properties). The interface cards can not be seen under 'Control Panel > Network and Dial-up Connections' as well. Is there a Registry Entry which may have been modified to prohibit network interface card modification or what could the problem be?

I have the same problem and I'm fairly sure it happened when I installed a USB modem for broadand internet. I know all the old connections are still there because if yo go to control panel > Internet > connections they still all appear in the dropdown list.
However, the 'network and dialup connection' pane is completely blank, so I can't get to any of the connection properties.
Unfortunately I have not figured out the anser to this yet !!
