Right-click My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery Settings > Uncheck "automatically restart" in the System Failure section.

If your restarts are caused by system crashes, Windows will now display a blue screen (of death) with an error message, rather than simply rebooting the computer. This won't fix your problem, but it will help you to identify the problem.

Once you have the error message(s) from the blue screen, post back with them.

Sorry, my bad. I didn't read your initial post carefully.

Check your event viewer. Are there any events in there which coincide with the spontaneous restarts? This is key.

The reason I ask is, it is very hard to troubleshoot a problem like this without having at least an idea about what is causing it. For all we know, something your antivirus software is doing is causing the restarts. That's unlikely, but in the absence of any other information it's not an unreasonable guess.

What troubleshooting steps have you already taken? You should, if you haven't already, remove all expansion cards other than video and see if that has any effect. Swap out the RAM with another module, if available, or remove one module at a time if you have more than one installed.

Heat might also be a problem. What temperature are your cpu, northbridge chipset, and power supply running at?

How do i check my event viewer? So fare i did all these test with Microsoft and he said most likly its a hard ware problem not software. These problems were happing befor and after i installed nortan. So i dont think that is the problem. I took out everything but my video card. I repluged in everything to my mo/bo to be sure. Heres my temps...i put the * as the temp sign ...

Case open warning disabled
system temp 29*C/84*F
Cpu temp 44*C/114*F
Cpu Fan Speed 3125 Rpm
Vcore (V) 1.52V
+ 3.3V 3.36V
+ 5V 4.99 V
+ 12V 11.85V
-12 -12.36V
Vbat (V) 3.12V
5vsb (V) 5.04V

Thats all i got in m bios menu were i found these temps. Hope they help. I habe a 420W suply. And hte back switch the red switch on the back of the power suply is at 115V.

Right click My Computer > select Manage > expand Computer Management > expand System Tools > expand Event Viewer > click on System.

Look for any red X's (errors) that occurred at about the same time as a restart.

Well im not sure what time it was. But i do have a couple of X's. From yesturday. It hasent restart yet today. Heres what they said ...
A duplicate name has been detected on the TCP network. The IP address of the machine that sent the message is in the data. Use nbtstat -n in a command window to see which name is in the Conflict state.

Is my temps all good? Man this problem is really makeing me mad. Thanks for you help tho man hope we can figure this out man.

Your temps are fine, and the "duplicate name" error is unrelated.

I hate to say it, but you should probably just take it to a shop. It does sound like the problem is with your hardware. Without the proper tools and skills, it will be difficult to troubleshoot further.

there are a few red X's right around when it restarted, they are called W32Time? this is what it said about them

Event Category: None
Event ID: 29

User: N/A
Computer: 1-8EEHX2L4I5TD4
Description:
The time provider NtpClient is configured to acquire time from one or more time sources, however none of the sources are currently accessible. No attempt to contact a source will be made for 15 minutes. NtpClient has no source of accurate time.

Ian,

That error is almost certainly not the cause of your restarts.

W32time is the Windows time service. When Windows is starting up, W32time will attempt to contact one or more network time servers. If those servers don't respond, W32time will write the error message you posted to the event log.

The reason you're seeing this error repeatedly at around the same time your computer reboots is because it occurs during startup which, of course, immediately follows each reboot.
