I have a little mini lab with an intel 24port switch and a computer with 1 dual port nic card and a single port nic adapter.
I have 3 connections running right now. Equivalent to having 3 different NICs
Nic 1 has the ip 10.1.1.1
Nic 2 has the ip 10.1.1.2
Nic 3 has the ip 10.1.1.3When i try to do a Ping to 10.1.1.1 Nic1 seems to do a loopback and no traffic goes through the switch.
When i try to do a Ping to 10.1.1.2 Nic2 seems to do a loopback and no traffic goes through the switch.
When i try to do a Ping to 10.1.1.3 Nic3 seems to do a loopback and no traffic goes through the switch.
My question is, how can i do a ping that will go out from nic1 and be replied by nic2 or nic3.
How can i specify windows to use a specific nic for outgoing traffic.I have tried to set the defeult gateway on all nics to 10.1.1.1 (nic1) but it doesn't help. all nics always ping themselves.
Thank guys.
Thankx

don't think it can be done. icmp goes the shortest route which in this case is pinging the local interface. how is ping going to know to go out one card and back in on another on the local machine?
I don't even see a reason or purpose for what you are hoping to accomplish.
If you want to play with routing perhaps using three different subnets would be in order instead of just one.

I guess the first question is why are you doing this?
As for the problem it won't work. The machine will address each nic address directly as they are local to it. Playing with addresses won't help much either.
You might want to read up on routing fundamentals. A great source is Chapter 5 of a MS online book.

if you want faster internet, you will have to do some cabling, and still only be able to use 2 nic's. idk witch cable you are supposed to rewire, but you can have one as incomming and outgoing traffic. idk how to do this, but i have seen it done. if that is what you are trying to do, you should do a search for it on google.

are you trying to accomplish what you would have with multiple TEAMING nics for fault tolerance/faster throughput? if so, they have to be, well, teaming nics and designed for that.
