Hello all,
My pc is always asking at startup for "Multimedia Sound Controller" drivers (Realtek AC 97 drivers) which i have, asks for a specific file which i have and when i point installation to that file my pc hard-boots inmediately, when is up again it is still asking for the same driver and same file. Sometimes it finishes installation and asks for restart and when is up again is asking for the same. No matter which driver version i install it's always the same thing.
Have tried installing from setup file and with different drivers version (updated and latest) and still no luck. Device shows conflict but when i go to its properties-resources display is "no conflicts". Have tried many ways to install and still no joy. I'm thinking it might be an OS issue, what would you think guys?? what other approach should i follow next? Internal sound chipset in Intel D865PERL MOBO (Don't have mobo cd-driver).
Really hope you might shed some light here, Thanks.
Look in device manager for the sound controller and see if it states it is working correctly. If so, boot into safe made and remove all instances of the sound hardware. Reboot and supply the driver again when prompted. Be sure you DO have the correct driver.
Device is showing conflict, therefore, it won't show any driver information. Since is not installed I couldn't find which are the files I must delete in order to remove all instances of this driver. I know it'll be useless to boot in safe mode and remove conflicting device. Tried many things in Windows, so i ask..... is there a possibility i might find a solution inside BIOS?? if so, would you please gently point me in the right direction?? all i want is stop windows from detecting this "Multimedia Sound Controller" and let me install the correct sound drivers i have. Windows is asking for a specific file (which i have in 3 different versions of the driver) and none work. So i think this must be a BIOS issue maybe. Point me in the right direction please.
It is possible you have the wrong drivers. Many times different versions of a MBoard will use a different soundchip. Are you sure the device with the conflict is the actual device you have? Is this integrated sound or an add in card? On way to solve the problem is to remove the device using device manager. Reboot and when Windows attempts to install the hardware hit ESC or cancel the installation. Then manually install using the add harware in the control panel. You should be able to install the drivers you think are the right ones that way.
I DO have the right drivers, those are the drivers i always have and always installed in my pc for months, (had formatted and installed windows a few times) they're just simply don't want to install (i don't know why). It is an integrated sound.
The first thing i tried when my problem started was what you are suggesting: removed device using device manager and trying to install manually after hitting ESC when Windows attemps to install sound, didn't solve my problem with that attempt. Also tried add new hardware from control Panel, didn't work either.
All this thing started when i tried to update the sound drivers from version 3.58 to 3.92, received BSOD, then i boot and selected F8-Load last known configuration that worked to roll it back the way it was and all started from there.
Thanks anyway, i think i will go deep in BIOS, maybe i might update BIOS, the thing is, i will deeply search in BIOS in order to wipe this crazy thing out for good.
The BIOS isn't the issue. Boot to Safe mode and remove ALL instance of the hardware from there. It is possible that the same device may be installed twice, either with the same exact name or with another name.
Did that, booted in Safe mode to remove all instance and when i boot again it is asking to install device again. This device isn't installed not even once, not even with the same name or a different name. I agree BIOS is not the issue, been reading some good info in the Net about this issue. Windows even asks for a specific driver to install (which i have). I was reading about my problem in Microsoft Knowledge Base but it didn't give a proper solution. I guess the ultimate solution is to Install Windows all over again :(
IF you let Windows install the sound card it comes up with the yellow exclamation mark? Is that correct. Go to device manager and try to enable the device. You will get a dialog that will either say this device has no drivers enabled or there is a conflict. If no drivers try supplying the drivers you have by pointing to them. What file extension are the drivers that you are trying to use? This is an integrated sound chip (on MBoard) isn't it? If so, there could be a conflict with the settings in the BIOS for that sound chip. Re-installing Windows may not help this issue.
Windows doesn't finnish driver installation. IF i click on cancel on driver installation it will appear with a yellow exclamation mark (of course). Device show it's "enabled", so available options are disabled or uninstall. Installation are trying to use some .exe files (RTCPL.exe and alcrmv.exe) first one is ok but when it's trying to install or copy the second one my pc just boots after a "clank" sound comes out of my Mobo, those files are part of the driver files. that happens when i try to install from Windows.
Readme says not to install from Windows but from SETUP drivers provide, i do install from SETUP, files are "copied" so fast no one can even notice and ask for restart just to ask for the same drivers again when is up again. Yes, it's an integrated sound chip. The only setting in BIOS for the sound chip is enable or disable sound, i don't know if there another menu inside BIOS to look at.
Where i should look into inside BIOS?? since Re-installing Windows wouldn't help.
It just dawned on me what the problem might be. MS issued an update that affected Realtek sound drivers. Look here to see if this will help. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448
Visited the web site but this fix is only for WinXP with SP2 and i have Win2000 :(. Besides, that's not the error message i receive, so, it's not this specific error msg.
Still can't figure out why the good old drivers i've ever use aren't the right ones now, but it doesn't matter anymore. Downloaded the drivers you pointed me to and now i have a powerful sound. Great drivers with too many goodies.
Thanks a bunch, for the "right drivers" and thanks all for all your support and help.
