Hi, after installing the new Internet Explorer 6, mstask.exe uses 100% CPU power sometimes after booting the computer. I cannot stop this process and the processes doesn't stop itself. So I have to reboot each time this happens. What can I do??? System: PIII 500, 512 MB RAM. OS: WIN 2000 Pro

I am using IE 5 SP 2 and having the same problem. Someone told me to go here: http://www.iarsn.com/ and download and install TaskInfo 2000. That at least lets you kill MSTask. I haven't found any other recourses yet.

A temporary solution is to go to Services and disable the Task Scheduler, because mstask.exe concerns this Service. Allthough i had nothing ever Scheduled, i had the same problem. Please post a notification if a definite solution comes from MS to solve this ...
ps: TaskInfo 2000 rules! Finally you can kill a (non-vital)proces without getting the access denied statement. Please mail me if a definite solution comes from MS to solve this ...

solution: mstask.exe is for some reason listening to port 1026. If random characters are sent tro this port then mstask.exe (taskmanager) will f--- up. Solution: disable taskmanager. Only win nt en win2000 have this program running. Just don't use it. How to disable?
you can reproduce the problem yourself. Start a telnet session, connect to localhost (127.0.0.1) on port 1026 or 1027. If you are connected then type some random characters, press enter and BOOM your system cpu usage will increase DRAMATICALLY. M$ nows about this strange flaw, but they don't have a solution yet.
