I have seen this on TechTV before but I just can't find how they got rid of this problem that I'm having. I don't know what part of Microsoft Windows that doing this but I want to get rid of it ASAP. During gameplay, email, web surfing, etc. I get a nice little pop-up window from people I don't even know advertising the living hell out of my computer.
The thing about this is Microsoft design this msging program for people to send msges over to other computer as a msging program. But spamers are using it to their advantage to advertise through the internet with NO email. I know how this works, just forgot how to get rid of the problem.
I know this is not virus, trojan, worm, etc. I've seen this exploit and I know it exist but I don't remember where did Microsoft hide it. But it's annoying and I would like to get rid of it.
Thank you for any help possible.

Yeah I have a Win2KPro machine running 24-7 as a server and whenever I'd turn on the monitor I'd have to close like twenty of those stupid messages. Here's the fix, you've got to disable the Messenger Service:
Settings->Control Panel->Adinistrative Tools->Services->Messenger->(right-click)Properties
Press Stop to stop it and then set the Startup type as Disabled so it doesn't turn on when you boot the computer up again. Cheers.
