I have a system here that keeps going to the MS updates site and installing the same update day after day. All other systems are OK, but this one goes out and checks the site and notes that KB832483 needs to be installed and downloads and installs. System is rebooted and the next morning off it goes again and repeats the process. Also have tried a manual install and this makes no difference. Any ideas? Thanks for your time.

Use this link to fix this problem. I dont know the excat details, but I know that an old file conflicts with the new file. I had the same problem, this will fix it.

Thanks for the help. I am afraid though that copying and pasting the link does not get me to the page in question. I think the line may have been cut off when you submitted it. Could you submit it again please. Thank you once again.

Hi! I've had the same problem, and have now downloaded the file. In which directory should the file be placed? I have another file with the same name (MDAC_TYP.EXE) in the winnt\corel directory. Should I overwrite that one? Thanks

I downloaded MDAC 2.8 (as per cyberlantz above) and installed it (the answer to PerM's question is it doesn't matter where you save it, just make sure you run it to install MDAC 2.8 and then reboot) but the Windows Update site still tells me I need to install Security Update for Microsoft Data Access Components (KB832483). Doesn't look like it's fixed the problem.

Update to previous entry: going from SP3 to SP4 *seems* to have fixed this.
