Comment:

I have moved the Outlook.pst file from the c drive to the d drive and opened Outlook and told it the new location of the Outlook.pst file. Trouble is the Address book does not appear to be linked to the contacts folder any more. When I open the address book based on the contact there is no contact in it. I have performed this operation on a Windows xp machine with no problems it only seem to happen on tyhe Windows 2000 machine. I could export the personal folder then move the personal folder to the new location and then re-import it the exported file. I have not tried this yet. I dont think this should be this hard. Any ideas.

hi Navigator1,

you didn't happen to mention the Outlook version. The refs I will give are in Outlook 2k (sorry, all I have at this location). Probably close enuff to figger out.

First:
In outlook, R-click on the contacts icon. choose Properties.

On the "General" tab, be sure that "Automatically generate Microsoft Exchange views" IS checked.

On the "Outlook Address Book" tab "Show this folder as an e-mail address book" must be checked as well.

It is sometimes useful to uncheck these items, close Outlook, then re-enable them.

Also try:
From within a new mail item, Poke "To:" to choose a recipient. When the "Select Names" dialog appears, look in the top right corner for the pulldown. It should say "contacts" *NOT* "Outlook Address Book". Hit the pull down. You may have a duplicate "contacts". In other words, there may be TWO "contacts" in the list. Choose the other one. If you find your lost contacts there, then you need to remove the extra one. I won't get into that here, as it is different 'tween versions.

Hope it helps. :)
Bruce
