Mouse pointer jumps in Win2000 Pro

Hello,
I use Windows 2000 Pro and often the mouse pointer jumps several times when I check E-mail, click on any link (on the Internet), etc.
Have you any idea about that behavior? And how to fix it?

Open your mouse to see if its dirty, clean the mouse ball and the plastic ridges that the ball running on (ie. the two sticks on the side of the hole).

is 'Snap to default' checked in the mouse properties in the contol panel?? it sounds like that may be the problem
