Subject: Mouse cursor looks like barcode??OS: win 2000 proCPU/Ram: ??? |
Comment: Got a pc here running win 2000 pro. The mouse is a MS IntelliMouse PS/2 or serial one. Works fine, moves fine, but instead of the nice little white arrow it changes and becomes a box about 1/2" x 1/2" and is kinda see thru looks sorta like a bar code. Still moves and stuff but hard to select text and things when it is in this mode. I've downloaded the software that runs the mouse, I've changed the mouse "scheme" that controls what the mouse looks like, rebooted, etc. I've talked to many comptuer professionals who have seen this problem but no one knows how to fix it. I have all the upgrades of win 2000 on the machine too same ones as the rest of the PCs but this one is the only one with this problem. I have tried changing the mouse out but still have the problem. If anyone out there can help me. . . you're a genius! Help!

Reply: (edit)Check your screen resolution see if setting it higher makes any difference. if not try uninstalling the proprietary mouse software and the mouse. Reboot and use windows drivers to install it. Also check to see if this machine has a different video adapter than the rest of them. if so make sure you have the proper drivers installed.

Reply: (edit)SOLVED!! Went into control panel, display settings and changed the graphics acceleration down a notch (to the left).

Reply: (edit)Hi LG: This problem is usually associated with video acceleration of bitmaps and icons which is what your cursor is. All you need to do is go to your Video Properties window, click on the settings tab, click on the advanced button, click on the Troubleshooting tab, then back the acceleration slider off a notch or two. Or in the words of Emeril Lagasse. Kick it down a notch! Usually one notch works. Apply the settings and see how it looks. Happy new year!
