i have 2 computers networked in my house and am trying to make it possible for my house-mate to watch dvd's in his room from my machine.
both are running 2000 pro.
he has full access to the dvd on my machine over the network and this works fine.
he has power dvd 4 on his computer and hoped the open file option would work.
as this doesn't i wanted to try to mount my dvd drive to his computer over the network, as if it were attached to his machine.
first, is this possible? and if so, how?cheers.

I'm trying to do the same thing, although I won't be able to test this for a few weeks when I move back home (currently at school). This idea has an application for me next year when I'm living in an apartment with budies - we've already decided to put my second machine in the living room and mount our mp3's over the network to play them on the stereo in the living room - and by all acounts this should be able to be done on a network. Simple calculation - 4 gig is average dvd file size, 2 hours of play, equals out to about 6.7 Mbit/s - so you may squeeze it onto 10baseT, but in a month I'll be on my 100baseT switch. Anyone with suggestions or comments please feel free to drop me a line - I want to see this done!

So far, the only way I found was through this website: http://www.videolan.org/
Apparently there's a problem when streaming DVDs over the network. I was able to get a picture, but it skipped horribly (like one frame showed every 5 seconds...).
I really don't think this is possible right now.
