Hi,
My problem is a random but annoying freeze in the computer whenever I scroll down in webpages, it happens most of the time when I scroll using the mouse wheel and sometimes when I scroll using the KB, afterwards it remains in the freeze for 5-30 secs. and then emmits a short beep from the M/B speaker and resumes normal activity.
Bear in mind that any mouse or keyboard input during the freeze is carried out as soon as the freeze is over ( e.g if I pressed the right mouse button twice during the freeze the right click menu will appear twice )Here are my system specs:
M/B: PC-PArtner - VIA CHIPSET PLE 133t (vt8601t)
CPU:Intel P3 650 Mhz
RAM: 192 MBOS: WIN2K, SP2 and other various critical updates + IE 5.5(sp2)
please note that I encountered this problem as soon as I installed win2k and before all the updates, also I had a different M/B with the same CPU and other parts and it didn't give me any such problems.
Thanks alot and sorry for the long post
Mohammed

I've had trouble with an USB optical scroll mouse on my laptop. Though mine didn't freeze during scrolling, it was a freeze all the same.
You could do the following: uninstall the mouse software, unplug the mouse, replace it either with a diff. brand optical mouse or a plain mechanical mouse. While only optical for optical mouse replacement will shed light on scrolling, either replacement may rid you of the annoyance.

Thanks david,
you reminded me of something important
I forgot to mention, my mouse is a generic copy of a mechanical microsoft wheel mouse, it is made by a company called maxxtro, and it didn't come with any sofware.

One thing you might note. By virtual of its being 'dated' and mechanical, your mouse driver was probably designed for Windows 95 or 98.
A major change of system architecture occured with Win 2000, bringing GDI32 into the kernel. Hence, your IE is running with that privelege level, while the mouse driver was written under the specs of an older API.

That makes sense in a way David, but the thing is I never encountered this problem before when I had an Intel CA810e Motherboard, so I think it's something to do with the M/B Input Output system
