I have a Conexant HCF Generic Modem, and it only dial's into AOL Australia, I have changed ISP's, and it won't dial into it, ot any others i have tried, the account i tried all work on another computer, but not on mine. The error i get is: error 680 there was no dial tone. but that is so, how come AOL connects fine, are there any special Init strings for my modem ?? what is wrong?

make sure you have a connection for your new ISP. GET RID OF AOL SOFTWARE if you dont use it. you can look to see if there are any init strings...and you could also check for updated drivers for your modem. is it only giving you that error when trying to dial to the other ISP? how are they connected...both through the same phone line? Did you try the line to see if a regular phone works ok on it? try http://www.modemhelp.org/inits/ there are init strings there for a lot of different modems.
