I have an internal modem installed in win2000 system. When i turn on the computer the new hardware is recognised and asks to load driver. I do have the CD and when inserted appears to go through the works loading the driver, windows determines the driver may cause problems as it does not carry micrsoft design, i click proceed and all seems ok, finding and naming the correct driver. however whwn finished an error screen appears telling me the driver is invalid and the modem is not identified in the system. Looking in the hardware profiles a yellow question mark appears over the modem labeeled simple PCI communications card. Unable to determine any other properties and will not let metalk to the modem even though drivers are loadeed on the hard disk.
Is there any way in win2000 to change or set IRQ ports (if this may be the problem - although there are no other conflicts noted>

PCI Simple Communications Controller=Modem Reinstall the drivers for that device and point it to the modem drivers. It should then find and install the modem for you.
