ok , i don't know what download or did to start
this problem but this is what it say when i start
boot up.the file has been delete or corupt (bad)
something like that. this is the file,.
WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
i have 3 os ,win98 windows 2000 and xp of course
my windows 2000 is down is there a place i can download this file or ?????

On boot up menu, select "Last known/good configuration menu" and it will load your previous registry settings. From there you should run a scandisk and defrag, your system files will be repaired in the process.

WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM is the registry where system config is stored, that's build according your system settings, so there won't be another one as equal as yours...
That's strange how it got deleted, but I'd try to recover from another machine with an unerase utility, if not, there won't be another solution than install Win2K again

Try booting with the original CD and select the repair option. Even when you get that error message, the file SYSTEM may still be there, although corrupted. A repair process should restore your computer accessibility.
To Ashley: defrag repairs *nothing*. It optimizes, it can add lifetime to your hard disks, but it does not correct no hard disk errors. Your suggestion has no negative consequences, but I wanted to make this clear.
Hope this helps!
Andrés

ok if that's so is there away to restore
my regerstry back to another date like ashly
said up top but some other way i dont get a
choice like last known menu.?
now i can get inside my folders becuse i just boot in xp my winnt file is there
so iguess something wrong with it.

W2K CD boot (or 4 floppies) and Repair routine; verify/repair system files (as Andy suggests #3), 'should' restore any damaged/missing files.
Failing that, a re-install to current location should do it. Perhaps try the Upgrade current installaton routine (first) - which is effectively the same thing in this case. Either of these should also preseve all current settings; but a re-install of your W2K SP may also be required.
After any of the above - especially the Upgrade/re-install approaches - you will need to run XP setup\repair to restore XP mbr/boot-files; these will have been replaced/overwritten by W2K routines, and thus access to XP will have been lost (temporarily).
Might not hurt to run a full virus check too; do it via XP before starting to restore W2K (using latest definitions).
And if you do a search via google.com using the string:
WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM deleted or corrupt
you'll get a few other ideas too about possible causes/fixes; (virus attack might have been a cause?).

yes, think you, i do belive so!
i'am going to use xp for now and transfer my
games and good file over, reading up on this problem i will still chack back for new ides
thinks all.
