I have been trying to network my business laptop (OS Windows 2000 Prof.) with my desktop (OS Windows XP). When setting up a network account in Windows 2000 I typed in a workgroup name to match that on my WinXP (identification changes window). When I restarted the laptop, a domain box no longer appeared at the login screen and my password is not accepted. It seems I have lost the domain that will allow me to log into Windows 2000. Did I lose it when I switched from domain to workgroup in network account setup? How can I log in to restore the domain name?

By leaving the domain and joining the workgroup you have lost your domain connection. You will need a domain administrator to put your workstation back into the domain.

You can connect to a home office PC without the laptop leaving the domain. Do a search on the web for small office networking or put up another post here for info.

Login to the machine locally using a local account....NOT Domain account.
