My Display Properties dialogue box has lost a couple of folders due to some adware. The remaining folders are: Screen Saver, Effects and Settings. How do I restore the original property box?

Hi, well, you could try SFC /SCANNOW (System file checker) - Start, Run - with your Windows CD.

But I haven't seen this solve smaller issues yet.

Do you have a recent disk image? If not, you should use this periodically as a backup against untoward system changes. Eg Acronis TrueImage.

You could reinstall Windows and only lose the Windows updates (you did keep them, didn't you- for reinstalling?!).

Good luck!

Oh, and if you were as lucky as I was with a minor issue like this, you could try uninstalling Windows updates and reinstalling them. Who knows, you might get lucky! After installing a couple of updates, my ('insoluble') problem was solved. No guarantees of course...

Hi stesu

Run REGEDIT

Go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

On the right hand page, look for

NoDispBackgroundPage
and
NoDispAppearancePage

If you find them, right click and change the value to 0

If you don't have them, create them as a new DWORD Value, and put the value as 0

Good luck!
