hello,
i keep getting alot of undesired HD activity on my system. specially when surfing the web, sometimes i'll load a page and HD light on my computer goes crazy (ie, microsoft update site), writing i don't know what, and then the page loads. i noticed the file ntuser.dat written and updated like every minute, and in one week of using Win2000pro it's size is at about 1mb. also i noticed the file ntuser.ini on the same directory. is there a way of tweaking this file to control the logging on the ntuser.dat file, or is there a way of reducing the writing on this file, if not disabling it altgether?
thank you in advance.

you can't and don't want to dissable it. User.dat is one of the registry files. it stores your setup information and other needed info. I don't understand why it is accessing this file so much. the only reason it should access durring surfing is to update the "most recently used" files and sites. If anything, it should be accessing your index.dat file which stores info about hwere you've been surfing.
