I know this has been asked time and time again, and I am researching through posts and MS Articles. I am creating a new domain with Win2k SBS, replacing an old domain that has NT 4.0 Server PDC and two BDC's. My question is: I cannot create a trust with SBS so there goes ADMT. But I have been told that I can bring the old PDC (NT 4.0) onto my new domain and the run MS Exchange migration wizard. (small network will do users manually) I want to know, does anyone have experience with this tool? Anything I should know
Thank you

Also if Glen could throw his two cents in that would be great!!!
Oh and also I just found out that the migration wizard only migrates the default folders and none other from users mailboxes, that's not good, should I just use exmerge?

What about upgrading the the computer running Exchange in NT to 2000? As you upgrade it, add it to your 2000 domain as either a DC or standalone server. Then you should be able to migrate the Exchange to the new server and new version. You might even just be able to leave Exchange in place running on that computer depending on it's hardware.

That is a good idea, I definetly can't leave exchange on the old server cause the hardware is failing and that's the reason for the new server. Also If I upgrade to 2K and something happens I don't have a failover. I think I may just use exmerge.

The best solution I have found from countless migrations, are that the tools dont work a damn. You should connect the local employees computer to the old exchange server, and export all of their email and such to a local .PST. Then connect them to the new Exchange server and import the .PST into the new exchange. It will transfer all that is needed. Thanks!

Michael,
Thanks for the reply, after speaking with some peers what you are suggesting is most likely what I will be doing. The network is very small so it will only take half a day or so to exmerge mailboxes to a pst file to an ide hd and then put them onto the new server and exmerge them back, thanks for the reply
