Been having problems with pages loading slowly and requiring refresh to finish. Sometimes get stuck and wont even start to
load without a refresh...then usually load quickly. Problem is I work from home and lose data when I have to refresh.

Confirmed no spyware using Adaware 6, Spybot,Xcleaner and Mcafee all negative.

Disabled Mcafee firewall to make sure no
problems there. No difference.

Reset DSL modem (immediately after a page hangup)same results. Also did speed test immediately after a slow load or page hangup and speed was fine. 1.4down and 238Kb up.

Problem is intermittent. Sometimes pages
load fine...but usually 60% or more of the time...slow load or get stuck.

Noticing the Ethernet light on the DSL modem flashing during slow loads is my only clue.
Perhaps there is a communications slowdown from the DSL modem...or with my onboard LAN?

I finally disconnected the Ethernet cable to my PC tonight and reconnected the USB cable to the modem. (It has both options)Pages load faster...and haven't had one not finish loading yet or require a refresh.

It seems I've confirmed some sort of LAN problem from the modem to my PC but how do I determine if the problem lies within the DSL modem or my onboard LAN? Could there be LAN driver issues or possible hardware problems?

Its an ASUS A7V8X-x MB. Anyone heard of this or have any ideas? My MB warranty is almost up...and I work from home so I can't be without a pc to send the MB back...I need to be absolutely sure where the problem is.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

Reply:

1) Update drivers

2) check if proxy server is enabled (Tools->internet options->Connections ->LAN settings, and remove check on "use proxy...."-> OK->OK->restart IE

3)alternative - if download always works fine for reliable, fast servers try Opera, Mozilla, or Netscape....they are free....(and same family)

4)Borrow someone's 10/100 LAN card and try that on
