I am currently attempting to resolve an issue with the error message "lack of resources" when adding a printer.

I need to run the Microsoft Product Support Reporting Tool (MPS_REPORTS) tool to open MachineName_PRINTDRIVERS.TXT. To find out what printer is using the print processor.

Would anyone know which of the following MPS Report do I need to download?

Hi

MANY MANY THANKS for your help.

I've tried to get the print spooler to work previously to the stage I'm at currently, I think it's corrupted or missing a file? It just goes back to "stopped" (the dependencies are OK and started).

I've cleaned up the print drivers and reinstalled the HP software but the spooler is still not responding.

I'm now using the following microsoft link:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/260142

but am a bit stuck at the final stage, which leads to my previous question on what to download. They say to open "MachineName_PRINTDRIVERS.TXT" but do not explain which report to download?

THANK YOU.

Why would you have to download something to read a .txt file? It should open in notepad.

- The list above isn't very clear, there's a read txt file with each report to download.

- You have to download the executable specific to the support issue being experienced.

- which of the above lists relates to MachineName_PRINTDRIVERS.TXT, which I need to open in order for me to search for the third-party print processor and for the queues that are using the print processor.

Many thanks.

I've solved the issue when trying to add a printer, the print spooler starting then stopping after a few seconds (Win2K, sp, hp printer):

ERROR: "printer cannot continue due to lack of resources"

HOW I SOLVED THE ISSUE:

Step 1: IMPORTANT: Back up your registry, just in case.

Step 2: Clean printer drivers using the following link:
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/Cle...

WARNING: Be very careful using regedit - if you delete the wrong things, you may render your computer inoperative! If you are not confident, use the cleanspl.exe Resource Kit.

Step 3: Download Microsoft Hotfix 820550:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/820550

WARNING: Back up your system before you download (registry etc.), just in case.

Step 4: Plug in your printer and reinstall the software, you should be able to print a test page and it should work!

I hope this is helpful to someone and THANKS to those that helped with my original query.
