Mic Problems!

For some reason I can not get my mic to work...I can hear my mic through the speakers but when I go try and recored something it does not seem to get any waves. I have tried everything I know...any sugguestions or anything like that?

double-click on volume icon -> Options -> Properties -> select recording -> check everything under "show the following volume controls-> OK-> put a check on Mic Volume tab-> voila
