While I am running AOL, streaming stock quotes and mIrc, I have been getting a memeory dump sometimes twice a day. I have changed the Paging File Size to 1000 mb to no avail. After I reboot I get a message that says files that are required for Win to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. Insert the Win 2000 CD etc. The choices on doing this is Install Win2000, Install add on components (which I already tried) and browse this cd. Should I select Install Win 2000? And what, if any problems could I derive? I have 30 gig free space. This only started a few weeks ago.

Did you install anything just before the problem started?
I suspect that in general, OS files replaced by 3rd party software will over time make windows unstable.
When you go into W2K installation have you tried the "repair" function rather than the install function?

Yeah, Ray, I did install Microsoft Streets Plus short time ago. Also, wondering if this could be a heat problem. I noticed the heat got up to 63C/143F on the CPU. Had a problem with heat last summer and added a exhaust fan. Operating now without the side panel and it dropped 3 degrees. I have the box in a desk with a top and back on it. Might have to change that setup. I don't see a repair function in W2K installation. Can you point me to it? thanks for help . . .

i get that sometimes to now. for some reason i get a memory management thing pop up with a big blue screen saying physical memory dump crap...im thinking its a hardware problem or maybe something important not like registry more like drivers.

I think you are right on the driver theory. I have been getting message at start up since installing 2000pro to go to control panel to configure components, but everything shows as OK.

When you attempt to "install" W2K over an existing installation, you are given the option of reinstalling(which wipes everything out) or "repair" which just insures that all system files are the exact same as what's on the installation disk.
The heat problem. Go inside and remove the FAN/HEATSINK from the processor. if there is thermal tape, carefully remove it and put a very thin film of silicon grease in its place. Make sure the FHS if reinstalled correctly. Boot to BIOS and check the temp.
The Microsoft Knowledge Base didn't indicate any issues with W2K and the MS Streets, but did have Expedia Streets issues concerned with changes to W2K security.
