Hello,
I have users that map drives via scripts on their laptops while in the office. When the user leaves and connectes through their VPN client, They receive a message that the "An error occurred while connecting to x:\\servername\sharename. Microsoft Windows Network : the local device name is already in use" when trying to access the shared resource.

Hi Chris (good name that) There could be a couple of reasons for this. The main one is that when your users log on to their machines away from the office, they do just that, they don't log onto the network. They then connect to the network through VPN. This way the logon scripts wont run. There is a way of logging on via VPN, but I cant remember how (something to do with the local account being the same details as the network account. Go to http://support.microsoft.com and search for VPN. The remedy is in there. Hope this points you in the right direction. ChrisE
