Have you ever thought about a driver issue???? And your computer doesnt give those errors if you formatted it, it will only give you that when you install an OS. So tell me what you installed and we got your problem. I bet you bought something new and keep installing the drivers that give the error

Nice to know I'm not alone. I have Win2000pro SP4 as well. What you're getting is what I've been getting. I have a SOYO SY-P4IS2 motherboard. Apparently Microsoft initiated somthing on 07/25/05 to force anyone with 'non' legal copy of their operating systems to encounter problems. One of the recent updates would have triggered it. I have a legal copy, but it can't be recognized as 'genuine' because a tech performed a non-destructive restore when my registry messed up so I wouldn't loose the programs I no longer have the CDs to. He patched some files of his XP in order to keep me going. I'm not an expert, but you find the meaning of those errors on the internet (ie, "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"). Myself, I contacted Microsoft online and sent a problem report. They are in the process of helping me resolve my problems. To contact them, start at: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport Toward the bottom, find the link "After you install the updates, the computer does not operate correctly" and click on it. MS does not make it very easy to nagivate through to send in a problem report. I can't remember how I found it the last time to get mine in. When you do find it, bookmark it in case you need to find it again. If you're using a 'pirated' copy on your PC, you may have to consider getting a legal copy. I've seen tons of them for sell on eBay. If you have to go that route, make sure you get an original copy that has never been used (registered, activated, or loaded). In the USA, Microsoft has the law established that an OS can be loaded only on ONE PC. It leaves it's 'fingerprints' all over that PC to identify itself as belonging there. If you get a new PC, you can NOT use the same OS to load on that PC and pass as legitimate. You must have a brand new, never before used, OS to load. Ive only updated with service pack 4 I hate to say this, but the computer shop guy put on a free copy of win 2000 as Id lost my bloody disk in the move, not sure if thats the problem though what have I bought? err well a second hand hercules prophet 9700pro that could be it, I so pray it isnt I think it was blue screening before I updated the driver from the one on the disk but not sure and a maxtor second hard drive that didnt need a driver and ive uplugged that, along with my new dual layer dvd burner in case that was the problem, the dvd burner didnt need a driver either I also installed an adsl usb modem driver from the cd that I got it with ages ago and err, a bunch of programs, I have avast antivirus and zonealarm, but thats about it for drivers apart from a 56k modem driver I dont use and the aoc monitor is that any help? *gets down on his knees* PLEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASEEE HELP ME IM DESPERATE ILL WRITE YOU INTO MY WILL AND GIVE YOU MY BROKEN COMPUTER ITS GOT A HERCULES PROPHET 9700 PRO YOU KNOW!!! Did you install the Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4 Take a look here at issue #2. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891861 I have seen this a few times and the fix there works.

Hey, "johns (by johns3)", thanks for the info. I didn't find that before. I'm not the most savvy for this sort of thing, so I kind of muddle thru. Microsoft is helping me fix their problem.

oh how I love Microsoft, let me count the ways... I dont think I did install that update.
