Hello,
I've been trying to connect a PII computer with W98 to a PII computer with W2K via LPT parallel port with no success. Both computers work perfectly with LPT printers, so there can be no problem on the LPT ports. On both W2K and W98, I installed every communication protocols and other services required (like file and printer sharing, NETBEUI, IPX...)and tried both windows direct cable connection feature and other applications such as LinkMaven. I couldn't use Parallel Technologies Direc Parallel monitor (DPM211) or WinLink programs as they weren't W2K compatible. So far, I couldn't get any kind of connection between two computers. It was just like that they were not even physically connected so I worked on the Parallel Port cable and changed it according to the directions given in the FAQ page of LinkMaven (i.e. I tried a 4-bir LapLink cable) but still there was no connection at all. I searched almost everything about the LPT
ports and found that both LPT ports must have the compatible modes like ECP or EPP, and I made their modes compatible but that didn't help either.
So I need your help. How can a achieve a direct cable connection between those two computers?
Regards.

and Helmig's site:

may help you achieve it?
Better route is to use a basic LAN (peer-to-peer). All you need is a NIC in each PC and cat-5 UTP cross-over cable between them. Cost around $15 per NIC; $10-$15 for the cable. (Change $ to £ for UK prices...)
Helmig's site covers all the basics and more of a simple (and not so) network installation/set-up.
