Comment:
I am having lots of problems based on the way I login to Win2000. If I login as administrator, everything works fine but when I login as anyone else, things keep on crashing and are unable to load. Some examples-
1) Internet Explorer 6.0 opens but the address bar, menu etc are not visible. I get a thick grey line right below the title bar and a big white screen 2) Photoeditor cannot open most files like jpeg, gif etc...Whenever I try to open it, I get the error, "No file format information can be found in registry" followed by "Unknown file format" 3) Some functions of Irfanview do not work. They hang up 4) Opera hangs up the moment it starts 5) And a lot more :((
Please help me as I am at a wit's end as to what to do
Try this to solve your problem with win2000 profiles: Log on as administrator. Go to the control panel --> users and passwords, and promote the domain user (if on a domain; if not on a domain, promote the local user) to the administrator's group. Then, as this domain user, install a program that is giving you a problem. Log off as the domain user, log on as administrator and demote the domain user to a power user. Log off as administrator and log on as the domain user. Try running the program. If it still gives you error messages, I'll be surprised. My understanding is that power users can install software but they can't write to the registry or system files (which needs to be done during an install) Only administrators or members of the administrators group can do that. Hope this helps.
I did what you said as I got the fix from somewhere.
1) It only solved the Photoeditor problem and nothing else. I have two more new problems now 2) The PC shuts down just-like-that (maybe due to processor overheat?) 3) When I log in as local user, I get a big window saying that "profile is corrupted" 4) Internet Explorer problem is bugging me like hell
