lost video driver when upgrding to windows 2000 pro..how can i get them back?

All you need to do is go into your Display properties, and reinstall the driver. If it's not listed, you can go to the manufacturer's website and download the latest driver file.

well..i went to properties..and did everything..it shows the driver but it won't reinstall..maybe its not compatible with win 2000 pro?? don't know...confused...tried everything

Hope you've solved your problem already. If not maybe this will help. Windows doesn't have a huge selection of video drivers but does have the basics to at least get you a picture. It installs the closest driver it can find. You need to get one that's application specific for your video hardware. As already stated, whoever manufactured your computer, go to that mfrs. web site and go to DOWNLOADS and then get the video driver for your PC. If you can't find one and *IF* your video is Nvidia based (onboard video or a PCI card) you can also go to Nvidia.com and get the latest driver which is compatible with all Nvidia based hardware due to UDA universal driver architecture Nvidia builds in to the software. If your video is SIS or ATI based then you can get drivers from one of those sites but you might need to be more specific about the hardware. The manufacturer website for your PC is the best source. Wherever you end up getting the driver from, Download it to a folder on your computer where you can find it but DON'T install it yet. (If the new driver you download comes as a zip file you'll need to unzip it first with winzip before proceeding.) If it comes as a "packed" setup file just leave it as is. Now, Go to CONTROL PANEL - DISPLAY - SETTINGS - ADVANCED - ADAPTER - PROPERTIES - DRIVER and click UPDATE DRIVER then point it to the folder you saved the new downloaded driver to. If windows doesn't find the new driver that way or won't let you point to the target folder for some reason, then proceed as follows. Follow instructions above but INSTEAD of using the UPDATE DRIVER OPTION...use the UNINSTALL driver option. The computer will indicate New hardware found either immediately after you uninstall the display driver or after you reboot. CANCEL out of the wizard. It might pop up more than once. Just cancel it. Then go to the new driver Setup file you downloaded and click to open it and proceed with setup. Let me know how you make out. Good luck. Dave
