well despite u wont hear many ppl talk about it there is only 2 ways of getting that password and only one im prepared to help you with. its called the old "linux boot up disk" part from that ... ur going to have to find the rest :) if ur capible of finding the answer then u deserve it ... if not .. well bad luck .. and its hardly like you forgot the password ... sif, more like you have a computer with a password ur wishing to crack, coz by the time you would have written this post you could have re-installed... so im guessing your just dodgie

Well, there's no quick fix, unless you have another Administrative level username and password you can remember.
Either reinstall, or go to www.lostpassword.com and pay $95 to get the program.
There are some other programs available as well at different prices...if you build boxes all the time or get returns, then you might want to pick this up. If this is a one time thing, then reinstall.

this happened to me because of a backdoor virus, someone thought it would be fun to change all my passwords, well when i rebooted i was locked out of my computer, you're choices are very limited in this situation. I had a lot of important files on my hard disk and reformatting was not an option. So what i did was get a win 98 boot disk, i ran it so i could get to dos and my cd drive, then i made a win 2k boot disk, and i installed windows again without erasing the original version, it gets confusing at boot up because it says windows 2000 twice when yo choose what operating system to boot into. So i went on the new windows 2k OS and erased the original's SAM (i believe it's in the windows/system32 folder) file, this alowed me to log back on and create a new admin pass, however all the settings were reset and when you boot there is the OS nag screen, but once you get all the file you need i suggest reformat and start anew...
