Comment:

If logical drives are actually partitions on my hard drive, why does Windows 2000 refer to my floppy (A:) and cd-rom (D:) drives as logical drives in my computer management (MMC) window? I thought these would be physical drives.

I understand the difference between physical and logical drives. That's what's driving my confusion about why my MMC is calling my physical drives (floppy and CD-ROM) logical drives. Why would my MMC call these drives logical drives instead of physical drives?

Because they are "physical" drives to you, not the computer.

It's an electronic thing not a physical one.

Coming home from very lonely places, all of us go a little mad: whether from great personal success, or just an all-night drive, we are the sole survivors of a world no one else has ever seen.

Because the floppy and CDROM drives use removable media.
