My PC with OS W2K professional, I have got problem with icon "Local Area Connection", this icon -which is near to volume icon- has got red cross on it; that means there is some thing wrong!!!.I tried many things but, I could not to correct the problem.
The Ethernet has been regonized by the system which is:
3Com Ethernet XL 10/100 PCI NIC (3c905-TX).
By the way I have got two PCs at home with the same problems!!!
Could any one give me hints about that please?

This usually means you have NIC installed and that it is not connected to a HUB, Router, Switch or to another NIC using a crossover cable. Do you have the 2 units wired in some way?

Hi Dear

“This usually means you have NIC installed and that it is not connected to a HUB, Router, Switch or to another NIC using a crossover cable. Do you have the 2 units wired in some way?”.
Thanks for your time and for your effort to reply my email.
But one thing I want to tell you, before this problem happened to me, I had borrowed Ethernet from my friend and with that Ethernet there was no like this red cross on it, why !!!Do you think if I make networking between my 2 PCs , this will solve the problem to get rid off red cross?
Answer your question in green color, I do not have 2 units wired in any way.
Please reply my email if you have any other idea
Thanks

there are issues with those type of NICs and win2k. Also issues with some cisco equipment
