Loading Scanner Driver

Dear All,
I have an old scanner (Acer 610Plus) it works fine but everytime when I need to use the scanner, I need to turn on the scanner and restart the computer so the Windows2000 can recognise it. I assumed that by turning on the scanner, Windows2000 will automatically recognise it and load the driver (I am not sure if this is the way Windows2000 do things)
So, my question is -> Is there anyway I can force Windows2000 to load the driver everytime no matter if I turn on the scanner or not?

I assume since it's an older scanner it uses a parallel interface rather than USB, so the scanner must be on before you start Windows in order to be recognized. Once the computer is started you should be able to turn the scanner back off when you aren't using it, and back on without restarting.

Thanks Joe ... yeap I did that ... for the moment..but are there any way which I don't have to turn on the scanner at all?
Before I reinstalled my Windows2000 (last week) it works even if I don't turn on the scanner before restarting. Strange isn't it?
