Limited virtual memory, can't get n

At start up I get an error message Limited virtual memory and tells me how to fix this prob. I have tried to do this and also many of the fixes suggested at microsoft with no luck. No matter what I do it won't keep the new max size that I set. Any help out there?

I have 2 thoughts:
1) Maybe you don't have enough space on your Hard disk ??? Sounds stupid but may just be the case.
2) I had the same problem on a WinXP system I was troubleshooting, I ended up re-installing windows (2000) from scratch....

If you have a second partition, move the pagefile to that one. What are you setting for your min and max pagefile size?

Have same issue pc has following specs: HDD 40 GB -> 34 GB free 256 MB Memory Can't get VM higher than 512 MB. I remember that there is a rule of 2 saying that the "recommended" amount of VM = 2 times the intern memory, which is so in my case. Eventhough I don't think that rule defines the maximum ...

I cracked it: First put the desired and max values on 0.
