Comment: Hi all, please bear with me, as I am a new user with laptops. I have a Dell Latitude CPx J650GT laptop. The fan will not run. It gets a little warm while in operation. I have looked in the BIOS Settings, and have not found any settings on the fan. Does it come on when it gets hot enough, or should it stay on at all times? I would appreciate any help. Learn how to use DOS. It may be your life saver in restoring Windows. It was me!

Reply: (edit) Ray, Fans in laptops only turn on when absolutely needed. This is to conserve battery power. I've seen some really old laptops that have the fan constantly running when plugged into the AC, but then switch to "when needed" when running on battery. I guess this didn't catch on very well since fans do add to the noise level, and having to replace a laptop fan can't be very inexpensive.
