I've read a previous posted message about getting the LAN icon to appear, but I had no success. I checked the services in the control panel, and even restored some Registry Values, but I can't get the LAN icon back. I do have my internet connection working, but don't see the connected icon in the tray or in the properties of the network connections. I also found that the list of installed hardware have disappeared, too.
I'd really appreciate any help.
Thanks in advanced!

I'm using windows xp so it may be a little different but you can try going to Connection Properties and near the bottom is a checkbox that says "Show icon in notification area when connected"

Hi, slack_vi is very close. Right click My Network Places - properties - right click Local Area Connection - properties and check the box marked Show Icon In Task Bar When Connected.
Have fun

I'm having the exact same problem. All my connections icons disappeared and every one of them has the "show icon" box checked. I miss the ease of disconnecting using those icons. Now what?

Hi Eduardo and BigBoy.
I've had the same problem and.. lucky me.. I solved it after spending 10 hours for searching a solution.

In my case this problem was caused by setting impersonation level to "Annonymous" in Dcomcnfg.exe. Windows Explorer uses the Default Impersonation Level setting to access Network and Dial-Up Connection objects. Anonymous access does not provide sufficient access for Windows Explorer to display details of these objects.
Change the level to Identity or anything else.
After you make this change, all previously-defined Network and Dial-up Connection objects become accessible again.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem.

Please drop me a line if this solution worked for you.

Regards,

George

The same problem with me. I have tried even removing the interface itself and recreating it. The ICONs still wont come.

GxG, I also tried your suggestion on DcomCnfg too. No change.

Any further clues?
