Hi, ive just moved to university and i am trying to connect to there LAN to enable me to have internet access, i have set my ethernet card and TCP/IP settings correctly. I have to specify a DNS server IP, which i do. The internet connects for about 5 minuites perfectly fine, then it just dies, wont open web pages or msn. I wait 5 mins and it works fine again then 5 mins later will die again, this keeps happening. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanx

Barry

Hi Barry,
I have the same problem. I use Windows 2000, configured for DHCP with my cable modem for internet access. I get a minute or two ok, then I get the boot.

Using the event viewer, my system generates these event logs:

Type: Information
Source: Browser
The browser has forced an election on network \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_ {34A39B94-F577-417F-B864-AAE64B26CF81} because a master browser was stopped.

Followed by one of these 3 errors:

Type: Warning
Source: Dnscache
The DNS Client service could not contact any DNS servers for a repeated number of attempts. For the next 30 seconds the DNS Client service will not use the network to avoid further network performance problems. It will resume its normal behavior after that....

Type: Warning
Source: Dhcp
Your computer was not able to renew its address from the netowrk (from the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 00E018D12645. The following error occured:
The semaphore timeout period has expired. . Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from teh network address (DHCP) server.

Type: Error
Source: Server
The server could not bind to the transport \Device\NetbiosSmb because another computer on the network has the same name. The server could not start.

Adelphia tech support can't help me, the Microsoft knowledge base is useless so far. Can anyone help us?
