I'm getting the following error during Windows 2000 installation:
Stop: 0x0000001E (0xC0000006,0x8045E789.0x00000000,0x48587000)
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED Address 8045E789 base at 80400000, DateStamp 384d5a76 - ntoskrnl.exeThere's no help out there for when you get this error on initial installation. Can anyone advise?

Do you have Adaptec Easy CD installed? If so, this is the cause of your error. Remove it and everything will work.

Actually, I completely wiped the entire hard drive (Master Boot Record (MBR) and all). I don't have, and never have had, Easy CD installed. I do have an odd brand Video Card, would that be the cause? I've narrowed it down that it's either my AGP card or main BIOS.

I am also getting the same error, this time it's when I try to install a new CD drive. Found the adaptec Easy CD in the Registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USERS/Software/Adaptec. Removed it from there and tried rebooting the system to auto-detect the device. Same error. Experimented with the jumper settings and I get the error when the device is set to either CSEL or Master, had to keep it on Slave to get past the error. Can't seem to auto-detect the cd-rom, no matter what type.

I'm getting the same error. I couldn't load the machine with my Creative 3D Blaster Banshee video card, so I replaced it with a plain Jane VGA card & Win2K loaded fine, with a couple of drivers not found. Worked out 2 of them, but one problem remains. It says no drivers were loaded for: PCI Simple Communication Controller (I have no idea what this is). I'm pretty sure that this is why I'm getting the KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED error. This error doesn't happen every time I boot up...but fairly often. If anyone has anything of help, please let us know. Thanks.

I fixed this problem. It wasn't my video card or BIOS (as Microsoft suggested). I simply bought a Promise Ultra66 IDE controller and plugged my existing hard drive into it (instead of the motherboard) and now Windows 2000 loads just fine.
So, if you're experiencing this problem on initial install of Windows 2000. It may not be your video card, BIOS, or even your hard drive. It may be the IDE controller on your motherboard. Try buying a third party IDE controller (from Promise or where ever) and see if that does it.
Of course, as always, check Microsoft's Hardware Compatibility List (see Microsoft.com) BEFORE you buy and install Windows 2000.
