keyboard driver not working, help

Recently, while troubleshooting a non-functioning keyboard sleep key, I reinstalled the incorrect driver for my Microsoft keyboard. Now my keyboard and mouse are not recognized when I boot into windows. Both are PS2 devices. This occurrs even in safe mode. And I can't switch to USB, as USB software autoinstall features require confirmation by clicking "OK", and you need a keyboard to do that! In in a trap. I need out! Any ideas?

The name for the keyboard (and mouse) driver is "i8042prt.sys"
Make a win98 (yes 98) boot disk and copy that file to it as well. When you get into DOS, copy that aforementioned file to c:/winnt/system32/drivers folder.
Then reboot. Overwrite the file if need be.
You can get the file at filesearching.com if you dont have it

Well, I tried what you said. I alread had that file in the c:/winnt/system32/drivers folder, but I copied it anyway fresh from a backup folder I had. No luck. Didn't do anything. Any other ideas?

Just for fun, try hitting F8 on boot, and instead of hitting safe mode, choose "last known good configuration"
