Following problem:
Everytime I boot Windows 2000, after the loading bar reaches 100%, just before the lgoin screen, the system reboots. This just happens over and over again :-(
Possible cause: I updated the graphic driver (3dfx Voodoo3) to a newer 3rd party one (Voodoo3 AmigaMerlin V2.5SE).
What I tried:
safe modes (safe mode, safe mode with VGA, last known good configuration, ...)
--> still the same problem, always rebooting, even in safe modeboot from Windows 2000 CD, using repair function
--> did not work, still rebootingboot from Windows 2000 CD, using recovery console (CHKDSK, FIXBOOT, FIXMBR)
--> didn't change anything, still rebootingThanks for all your ideas, I'm really in trouble right now.

I think we've been through your problem already but let's try it again.
Disconnct the HD and boot the PC. It should post and then give you an error message that the operating system can't be found.
If it does that, reconnect the HD, then download the diagnostic tools from the manufacturer's web site for that HD. Create the boot floopy and check the drive.
If it still reboots and doesn't get to that error message about the missing OS, then reconnect the HD and disconnect the floppy, all CD and DVD drives, any other external drives and USB hubs. Boot it again.
If it still reboots, your mother board is shot or there is short somewhere else.
If it doesn't reboot, one of those diconnected devices is the cause. Reconnect them one by one to determine which it is.

I updated the graphic driver (3dfx Voodoo3) to a newer 3rd party one (Voodoo3 AmigaMerlin V2.5SE).
Put another graphics card in and remove th old driver.
Replace the card and use the Standard driver until you can search for a better driver.
Probably a corrupted VxD file.
Today seems like a good day to chew through the restraints.

I have no other graphics card that I could use (and I think the Voodoo3 is an onboard graphic ?).
But now I tried something else: I took the HDD and mounted it with an external USB drive on another computer. Booting the HDD from that other system --> "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM"
I'm not surprised by that error as Windows is now confronted with completely different hardware. I even tried a repair with booting from the Windows 2000 CD, but setup can't find thy Windows 2000 installation on the external USB drive...
But is there a way I to change the driver of an OS that is not running ? In my case, can I change a graphic driver of a Windows 2000 system that is attached as normal partition on an XP system ?
