When I plug in my datatraveler, photoshop starter edition starts up automatically. Is there some setting to to eliminate this.
Thanks!

With the flash drive inserted go to My Computer and right click on the flash drive. Choose properties> autoplay. Depending on how you use the drive you can now choose any of the options available there including Take no action.

Does the thumb drive show in My Computer? What are the options when you right click on the drive icon and choose properties?

Forget about the add/remove programs. Go to the link below and download and install Windows installer 3.1. Just doubleclick the link and it will take you to the correct page. Download to the desktop and then click to open and install.

I installed the 3.1 installer but it didn't seem to help. Here is what I get with the drive properties: General, Tools, Hardware, & Sharing. Within all of these I do not see any autoplay feature. Maybe I should uninstall the driver and reinstall???

You don't need any special drivers for a USB thumb drive.
Check your harddrive to see what tabs you have available there.

Usual reason for a program to open like this is there is a file at the root that Windows is trying to start.
Just move any files at the root to a folder. No files should mean no autostart photoshop

Th OP states the tab doesn't show. As far as I know the autoplay tab show install by default.
dbald, try looking for solutions at kellys korner. The link is below. Search the A's for Autoplay.

You may well be right. I looked at the OPs original post once and evidently read it wrong, thinking XP.
To dbald, kelly's korner may still have something there for you. You may need to hunt a bit.

I went on to one of my Win2000 boxes and looked around. I couldn't find any settings like you need.
I would guess the association was made by the Photoshop program. I would look in that program for a setting to dis-associate.

I looked all over in Photoshop Starter for settings to de-select, but nothing jumped out as to eliminate the problem.
So...I did the next best thing and uninstalled Photoshop. That certainly did it.Thanks again to everyone for the help and comments!

If you need to have Photoshop installed then be sure the flash drive is not inserted and when you do insert the drive watch the screens for file associations.

Haven't been on the site for a while and just saw your topic. Might have an answer if you haven't solved it already.
I have Photoshop Elements 3 (not that I really know how to use it yet) running in windows 2000 Pro and had the same issue until I found the control to turn off auto import.
TO DISABLE photoshop from importing automatically from a portable drive. (this is for PSE3...not sure what version you have). Open Photoshop Editor then go to EDIT - PREFERENCES - ORGANIZE AND SHARE. It will open a calendar organizer and then a POP OVER window will appear that says PREFERENCES on top of the window. Go to the CAMERA OR CARD READER tab and UNCHECK "use adobe photoshop to get photos from camera or card reader" then click OK at the bottom. It will no longer access your flash drive on install.
