What i would like to know is i am getting windows 2000 server and what to join some win 98se some win xp pro some win me computers that are currenlty in a workgroup to a domain. I this what i need? I think what i supossed to do is create a domain write the logon scripts and then join all the pcs to the domain so they can run these scripts? But i have heard that you need windows nt for that? Which is true? Any sites or pages or infomation is very welcome. Thank You :-)

Reply: (edit)If you want to assign the logon scripts to run in the user account settings on the server then they will only run on NT, 2000, or XP Pro machines. For the 98 and ME machines you should set up the scripts to reside on and run from the client machine. These machines can be made to authenticate to the domain for using resources but are not designed for a multiuser environment. As a result you will find it easiest to set these scripts up on a per machine rather than a per user basis. All that being said, there are fancy scripting and policy tricks you can do to get around all of this stuff but this approach is the easiest to get started with.

Reply: (edit)Excuse me Soulman, but Windows 95/98 can also load logon scripts from the NT/2000 server. I have an entire network of about 200 computers built that way... Andrés

Reply: (edit)I just did a little research and I stand corrected. I use strictly 2k Pro clients throughout my networks and I was erroneously remembering my Win98 info. -Soulman bows humbly-
